Lecture: Is there space for female foresters in the forestry sector of the Danube region?
Date and Time: 10th December 2024, 7 p.m. (C.E.T.)
Lecturer: Lesya Loyko, FORZA NGO Head, Ukraine
While traditionally a male-dominated field, the forestry sector is increasingly seeing more women entering the profession and making significant contributions. Women can bring diverse perspectives, skills, and experiences to this field, therefore organizations in the Danube region are actively working to promote gender equality and diversity in the sector.
In this online meeting, we will be able to learn more about the challenges and needs of women who have chosen to work in forestry, the stereotypes that still exist about the forestry sector in the eyes of girls and young women, and the efforts of 2 projects – Fem4Forest and Fem2forests, to address these issues for the benefit of the forestry sector in the Danube region and Ukraine.
For the past 15 years, Lesya has led the FORZA NGO. Although her background is in law, she moved into the development sector in 2004 and has 20 years of experience in international and cross-border development and cooperation projects. She is not a forester; however, she is passionate about the sustainable development of forests and communities in the Ukrainian Carpathians.
One of the domains that FORZA NGO works in is the gender equality perspective in the forestry sector of Ukraine.
For the last 5 years, FORZA has been part of a large consortium of organizations working together to improve the capacity of female forest professionals and to involve more women in the forest sector in the Danube region.
The lecture will be held in English with translation into German, Bulgarian, Romanian, and Ukrainian.
